The Art of Slowing Down
Guided art-making sessions for anyone who needs to rest but doesn't know how to stop.
Why art-making and rest belong together
When we are stressed, our nervous system moves into a state of protection. Thinking narrows, creativity shuts down and rest becomes inaccessible. This is not a personal failing. It is biology.
Research shows that art-making interrupts this pattern. When we engage in open-ended creative activity, cortisol levels drop, the nervous system begins to regulate and we access a quieter, more reflective state. That quieter state is where rest actually lives.
This series pairs guided art-making with short evidence-based reflections, so that participants experience that connection rather than just hear about it.
What we explore together
Each session opens with a grounding practice and a short reflection, then moves into making. No technique is required. Nothing needs to be finished. The pace is yours.
We move through three ideas. We start by rediscovering play and what it feels like to make something with no pressure attached. We then explore what rest actually looks and feels like for you personally, through open-ended making with colour, texture and image. We close by looking at what a small, sustainable creative practice could look like in your own life.
What you take with you
An understanding of how creative rest supports your nervous system. A clearer sense of what rest actually looks like for you and how to protect it. And a simple art-making practice you can return to when things turn heavy.
This series might be for you if
You are curious about art-making but rarely make time for it. You are drawn to the idea of rest but find it hard to access. You want something that is genuinely restorative, not another thing to achieve.
You do not need to think of yourself as creative. You just need to be willing to show up.

This workshop can be booked as a single 90-minute to 2-hour session, or as a deeper series of 3 or 6 sessions, 90 minutes each.
